    The 2019 Young Talents Forum in Engineering Science held at Peking University

  • In order to focus on academic frontiers at home and abroad and enable multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary discussions and exchanges, the second Young Talents Forum in Engineering Science was held from March 16 to 18 at Peking University.

    The forum was jointly organized by Peking University Engineering Science and Emerging Technology High-tech Innovation Center in conjunction with Peking University College of Engineering and School of Environmental Science and Engineering.

    Targeting at outstanding young talents in the field of engineering sciences around the world, it received applications from nearly 300 researchers from well-known universities and research institutes around the world. After the selection, the organizers invited 51 outstanding young scholars to attend the forum and make academic reports, covering areas including fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, computational mechanics, biomechanics, micro-nano technology, advanced manufacturing technology, aviation, intelligent robotics, control science and engineering, energy and resources, new materials and micro-nano devices, environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health and many other fields.

    On the opening ceremony on the morning of March 16, high level officers from the Graduate School, the College of Engineering, the Office of Scientific Research, the Office of Human Resources and the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, gave welcome speeches and expressed high expectations for fruitful results of the forum. Three young PKU teachers, Jicheng Gong, Bai Song and Qining Wang, talked about their professional experiences and shared their thoughts on young talents growth.

    On the afternoon of March 16, seven sub-forums were held simultaneously, covering fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, computational mechanics, biomechanics, micro-nano technology, advanced manufacturing technology, aerospace, intelligent robotics, control science and engineering, energy and resources, new materials and micro-nano devices, environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health and other fields.

    On March 17-18, young scholars visited the related laboratories in the College of Engineering and the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, and had in-depth exchanges with teachers and students. They made positive comments on this forum and expressed their great expectations for follow-up exchanges and cooperation.
