    Thirteen scholars from the College of Engineering listed as the 2018 Most Cited Chinese Researchers by Elsevier

  • On January 17, 2019, Elsevier released the list of the 2018 Most Cited Chinese Researchers. A total of 13 scholars from the College of Engineering at Peking University were on the list.

    Categorized by academic fields, the winners are:

    • Aerospace Engineering: Xun Huang
    • Energy: Xinrong Zhang, Dongxiao Zhang
    • Environmental Science: Guoqian Chen
    • Materials Science: Xiaowei Zhan
    • Mechanics of Materials: Yueguang Wei
    • Chemistry: Shaojun Guo
    • Computational Mechanics: Moubin Liu
    • Control and Systems Engineering: Guangming Xie, Zhisheng Duan
    • Agriculture and Biology: Feng Chen
    • Physics and Astronomy: Shuxiang Dong, Qian Wang

    As China's international influence and status in scientific research continue to improve, it is particularly important to recognize outstanding scholars who lead academic progress. Using methods and standards developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, and basing on the citation data provided by Scopus database, Elsevier systematically analyzed the influence of Chinese researchers on the world academia.

    Scopus is the world's largest peer-reviewed academic paper summary database, which contains more than 20,000 peer-reviewed journals, including more than 500 Chinese periodicals. Among the literature included in the Scopus database, there are more than 3 million author's addresses from Chinese (Mainland) institutions, and more than 4 million author's names.

    The 2018 list includes a total of 1,899 scholars from 229 universities or research institutions in China. A total of 282 were from Chinese Academy of Sciences, ranking first in organizations. Tsinghua University has a total of 126 scholars selected, ranking second. Peking University and Zhejiang University ranked the third or fourth, with 100 and 91 elected respectively. Shanghai Jiaotong University ranked fifth with 81 scholars selected. Fudan University ranked sixth with 57 scholars selected.
