    Commencement ceremony held for Class of 2018

  • On July 7th, College of Engineering (COE) grandly hosted a commencement ceremony for Class of 2018 graduates in Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center at Peking University.

    COE leaders including Dean Dongxiao Zhang, Associate Dean Duoxiang Wang, Huiling Duan, Huaiqiu Zhu, Deputy Party Secretary Jing Zhang, Assistant Dean Yongmei Li, department chairs, teachers, along with parents and families of some graduates attended the event to share with the graduates this joyous moment, and to send their congratulations and best wishes. The event was hosted by Prof. Jianxiang Wang, former Associate Dean of COE.

    In a short video prior to the official start, the graduates talked about details and memorable moments during the several years of their studies and life on campus. Many COE teachers sent goodbye words and best wishes to the graduates in the video.

    Dean Dongxiao Zhang gives a congratulating speech

    At the ceremony, Dean Dongxiao Zhang gave a congratulating speech. He reviewed the college’s critical development in the past five years, and asked the graduates to seek and pursue their dreams in the life after graduation. “Please keep learning throughout life and be courageous to take responsibilities and challenges,” said Zhang.


    Alumnus Jiang He delivers a speech

    Alumnus 79’ Mr. Jiang He, currently Board of Chairman of Baolan Co., Ltd. delivered a speech on the ceremony. He suggested the graduates on choosing a profession that they have a real passion for, having independent judging capabilities, and reading books as much as possible.

    Teacher Yue Yang gives a speech

    Subsequently, teacher representative Dr. Yue Yang spoke about his study and research in the area of turbulence. “I am fortunate enough to keep on research on this field that I really love,” he said, “When you are choosing your profession, you don’t have to do what is hot right now, but consider what you are really interested in. Be persistent and have the will to overcome the difficulties you will face is very important,” said Yang.

    There were altogether 237 graduates this year, including 91 Bachelor Degrees obtainers and 146 Master and Ph.D. graduates. According to the overall performances during the years at university, 14 students were elected to be outstanding undergraduates and outstanding graduates. They received the honor on the ceremony.

    The College of Engineering wishes the graduates of 2018 a splendid future.
