    Hong Kong University delegation visits Peking University and the College of Engineering

    A delegation from Hong Kong University (HKU) visited Peking University on April 21 to resume the current undergraduate exchange agreements and to discuss further cooperation.

    In the morning, Professor Peter Mathieson, President and Vice-Chancellor of Hong Kong University talked with Professor Jianhua Lin, President of Peking University. They signed the undergraduate exchange agreements, witnessed by many deans from both universities.

    The HKU delegation included Vice Presidents, Deans of Architecture, Arts, Business and Economics, Dentistry, Social Sciences, Interim Dean of Science, and Associate Deans of Education and Engineering.

    After the University-level discussion, Professor Francis C.M. LAU, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, HKU met with Professor Jianxiang Wang, Deputy Dean of College of Engineering, Professor Pingchou Han, Assistant Dean of College of Engineering, and Professor Huiling Duan, chair of the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science.

    After introducing the general information of both colleges, the two sides talked about the Capstone Design program and the Globex summer program of the College of Engineering at Peking University.

    Currently, two HKU students have already participated in the Capstone Design program, for which students from different universities work together on industry-sourced projects under the supervisions from academic supervisors and industrial mentors. The two sides agreed that more students should be encouraged to join the program.

    In addition, the Globex julmester is designed to provide motivated students with a study-abroad experience by allowing them to take 1-2 full length courses in about 3 weeks in July and getting university credits. HKU engineering showed great interests in the program and intended to send faculty members and students to join the program in 2017.
