Defa Construction Group, a successful construction enterprise from Zhejiang Province in eastern China, has generously given 20 million RMB to Peking University for technology innovation. A new College of Engineering-Defa high-tech institute will also be established at PKU.
The grand ceremony was held at Chen Shouren International Conference Center at PKU on January 11. The endowment agreement was entered between Defa Construction Group and Peking University. It was signed by Rufa Wang, president of Defa Group; Dr. Ya Deng, PKU president assistant and chief secretary of the PKU Education Foundation; and Shiyi Chen, dean of the PKU Graduate School and dean of the College of Engineering. An agreement to jointly build a new COE-Defa technology institute was signed by Wang and Chen.

This endowment holds strong promise to help boost industrial application of new technologies of COE. It aims to combine universities and enterprises to jointly pursue industrial innovation. Chen said he believed that this collaboration will greatly benefit the research and development of the engineering area.
PKU President Qifeng Zhou also attended the ceremony and praised both Defa’s support to the university and its shared responsibility for the development of society.
