    COE students win first place in the National Petroleum Engineering Design Contest

  • On May 29, the National Petroleum Engineering Design Contest finals came to a close at China University of Petroleum (Beijing).

    Team Polyman, comprised of Peking University College of Engineering students including Xuan Liu, Zhijie Wei, and Xiang Li, took first place. Another COE team won the Excellence Award. COE Associate Professor Bin Gong was awarded with the title “Outstanding Instructor.”

    Hosted by the World Petroleum Council and the China Petroleum Society, the two-month contest attracted 421 teams from 16 national universities and colleges to compete in the field of petroleum engineering. Teams were given access to basic data of a designated oil field and asked to provide a whole set or part of a design scheme involving oil reservoir engineering, drilling and ground surface engineering.

    The contest produced one top award, four first place winners, six second place, nine third place, 60 Excellence Awards, 20 “Outstanding Instructor” awards and five Excellent Organization awards.
