The second meeting of the second Industry Board was held in the Pan Gu hotel on November 7.
Peking University College of Engineering Dean Shiyi Chen and Yaowen Wu, CEO of the China National Coal Group Corporation, managed the meeting.
Zhipan Wu, deputy secretary of the Peking University Party committee, reviewed the reconstruction of the College of Engineering, noting that the COE has made significant progress since its inception in 2006. He encouraged all fellows to aid the college with further development of campus culture and international academic exchange.
Chen gave a report on COE’s recent development, focusing on four major points. According to Times Higher Education-QS World University Rankings in London, PKU currently ranks 31st in Engineering and IT, a feat he said was aided by the new COE. The COE recently recruited new faculty members and PKU’s scientific research department announced that the COE has been awarded group funding by the National Natural Science Foundation. Furthermore, the COE has continued establishing collaborative projects with industry members, including a recent cooperation agreement with Xiamen Milestone Corporation.
Hereafter, Duoxiang Wang, assistant dean of COE and the board’s secretary general, reported on the board’s latest work. Board member representatives Al Bryant from The Boeing Company, Hai Zhu from Schneider Electric and Naxian Zhao from the Guangzhou Municipal government introduced the research and cooperation they are currently conducting and put forward their future plans.
Board members and COE faculty later had one-on-one discussion on cooperation, several of them making substantive progress.
