Recently, the joint annual meeting of State Key Laboratory of Turbulence and Complex Systems (LTCS) and State Key Laboratory of Nonlinear Mechanics (LNM) was held at the Institute of Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. The main topics of this symposium are non-linear mechanical behavior of solid deformation, damage and destruction, basic research and application of turbulence, nonlinear laws of complex flow, key mechanical problems in major national projects and natural environments, and biological systems and mechanics Cross and so on.
Representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the meeting, along with more than 300 teachers and students from the two key laboratories.
At the beginning of the conference, Prof. Shiyi Chen, director of LTCS, expressed appreciation in his opening address to all the participants, scholars and all walks of life for their support, attention and active participation in the two laboratories. He pointed out that mechanics has a wide range of applications. As a long-established discipline that spans the history of human development and leads social change, he is pleased to see young people becoming leaders in the discipline and leading the discipline of mechanics to flourishing.

Subsequently, Professor Cunbiao Lee and Yujie Wei delivered annual reports respectively, on behalf of the two laboratories. And representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences spoke highly of the scientific achievements of the two laboratories.
Wei Yang, director of NSFC speaks highly of the two labs’ achievement
In the session of academic discussion, 27 speakers from different countries shared the latest research progress and achievements in basic theory and engineering application in their respective fields. In addition, academician Zhigang Suo of Harvard University, academician Jinghai Li of the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Wing Kam Liu of Northwestern University of the United States, Professor Yangze Zheng of the University of Kentucky, and many other scientists made wonderful academic reports. The delegates conducted in-depth discussions on related research issues.
It was the first time that the annual meeting of the two labs were jointly held. It deepened exchanges and cooperation between the laboratories and internationally renowned scholars and institutions, and provided an important exchange and cooperation platform for experts and scholars from various countries in the research field of mechanics.
