Basic and applied research on microalgae and microbes for production of high-value products, biofuels and biomaterials, and for bioremediation of air, water and wastewater. Major research interests include: 1) algae physiology and biotechnology; 2) systems biology of microalgae; 3) biosynthesis and regulation of carotenoids and fatty acids/lipids; 4) algal growth physiology and mass culture; 5) microbe-based bioremediation; 6) algal biofuels; 7) value-added bioproducts (e.g., astaxanthin and ω-3 PUFA) from algae.
Joined Peking University in 2015 as a tenure-track assistant professor. Received a BSc in biology and an MSc in biochemistry and molecular biology from Sun Yat-sen University, and a PhD in algal biotechnology from The University of Hong Kong. Worked in world top laboratories on plants and microalgae over ten years. Broadly trained and highly experienced molecular biologist and phycologist with interdisciplinary background. Particular areas of expertise include molecular biology, genetic engineering, biotechnology, transcriptomics, mass cultivation, algal physiology, algal biofuels and high-value products. Published over 30 peer-reviewed research articles on top journals of algae fields. Wrote 6 book chapters and editing a book. Editorial board members of several peer-reviewed journals.
