High school students and parents were seen roaming the Peking University campus on May 19 during the university’s Open Day, when all colleges, departments and schools open up for undergraduate admission consultancy.
The booth of College of Engineering (COE) received a lot of inquiries about admission scores, majors and career prospects. Exhibition posters of the College and its six departments were displayed. The fliers and booklets were also handed out to the public.
It was introduced that one important characteristic of the undergraduate education in COE is that all freshmen follow the same curriculum and study core courses like mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science. Starting their second year they can choose programs according to their interests.
During four years’ studies, the students will receive tailored tutorship from the college’s faculty, will have chances to apply for many scholarships, and will have opportunities to be engaged in overseas exchange programs.
For the prospective students of 2018, six programs will be available: Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Engineering Structure Analysis, Energy and Resource Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering.
The mission of the open day was to provide high school students a chance to find out more about Peking University. To achieve this, many teachers and current students were onsite to answer various questions of the audience face to face.
