College of Engineering researchers have achieved a feat that is a first in the fields of physics and chemistry—one that could have wide-ranging applications.
At 7:00pm on the 16th, Chairman of the Foundation Mr. Mou Sing Cha, advisors Mr. Chen Ning YANG and Mr. HAN Qide witnessed the ceremony along with renowned scientists in many fields in the academia in China.
The research results are published in international authoritative journals: Advanced Functional Materials, Small Methods and the Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters.
The ceremony got together many administrative leaders, faculty members, students and alumni to meet with the new entrants, a total of over 400 undergraduate, master and Ph.D. new students.
On August 29, a delegation of 24 students from Waseda University Confucius Institute in Japan paid a visit to Peking University and communicated with the College of Engineering students.
They proposed a novel periodically orthogonal poling method for piezoelectric ceramics, which turns the nonlinear switching strain to be reversible and realized a giant actuation strain of 0.6% in the most widely used PZT ceramics, about 4 times of that in conventional PZT.
Over 40 scholars and students from China, France, Australia, UK and US attended the symposium.
Yongmao Pei, Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science, College of Engineering, was awarded the 15th China Mechanics Science and Technology Youth Award.
