From December 9 to December 10, 2017, co-sponsored by the Graduate School of Peking University and College of Engineering, the 5th College of Engineering Doctoral Forum and 2017 Biomedical Engineering PhD Forum was held by the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The forum provided for doctoral students from universities and colleges in Beijing and other areas in China an opportunity to communicate on the latest research progress and achievements in biomedical engineering and related engineering science.
The forum received a large number of research papers from doctoral students of more than ten universities and research institutes, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Beijing Institute of Technology.
Around 60 outstanding achievements were selected for oral presentation, which covered biomedical imaging technology, biomaterials and nanomedicine, biomedical informatics, and new frontier of engineering science.
Prof. Jie Tian from the Graduate School at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Hongbin Han from the 3rd Peking University Hospital, Prof. Huaiqiu Zhu and Prof. Tianyu Xie from the College of Engineering at Peking University gave talks on various frontier developments of biomedical engineering that students are interested in.
In the closing ceremony, four PhD supervisors, including Prof. Jie Tian, Huaiqiu Zhu, Peng Xi and Xiaojie Duan were invited to discuss with eight PhD students on the topic of "My PhD student years”. The atmosphere of the dialogue was relaxed and warm. The students’ questions were positive and enthusiastic, and the tutors' answers were humorous and pertinent. During the dialogue, the four tutors gave a lot of profound guidance and suggestions on topics such as the cultivation of doctoral students' scientific research capabilities, how to handle the relationship between tutors and students correctly, and other various issues of great concern to the students such as the future career development for doctoral students.
Participating students said that the forum was a great academic exchange platform. It has opened their eyes to know more about the cutting-edge research in the field of biomedical engineering and inspired new ideas in their own research direction.
