On November 15, Clarivate Analytics announced 2017 Highly Cited Researchers, which is an annual list recognizing leading researchers in the sciences and social sciences from around the world. The new list contains 3538 Highly Cited Researchers in 21 fields of the sciences and social sciences, including 249 Chinese researchers. Professor Xiaowei Zhan at College of Engineering, Peking University, was selected as a 2017 Highly Cited Researcher in the field of materials science.
The 2017 list focuses on contemporary research achievement: only Highly Cited Papers in science and social sciences journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection during the 11-year period 2005-2015 were surveyed. Highly Cited Papers are defined as those that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science. This data derives from Essential Science Indicators (ESI). The fields are also those employed in ESI – 21 broad fields defined by sets of journals.
Dr. Zhan has published 240 peer-reviewed papers in high-quality journals such as Chemical Reviews, Chemical Society Reviews, Accounts of Chemical Research, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Advanced Materials, etc. These papers were cited by 16,200 times with 19 ESI Hot Papers and 43 ESI Highly Cited Papers. His research work was highlighted by Chemical & Engineering News, MRS Bulletin, ACS Noteworthy, Wiley Materials Views etc. 20 of his papers were highlighted as Covers of Chemical Society Reviews, Accounts of Chemical Research, Advanced Materials, etc.
