On August 29, a delegation of 24 students from Waseda University Confucius Institute in Japan paid a visit to Peking University and communicated with the College of Engineering students. The activity was part of “The Exchange for a Thousand Chinese and Japanese College Students” organized by the Japanese embassy in China and Peking University.
Visit from Waseda University Confucius Institute
The College of Engineering (COE) students met with the students from Waseda University Confucius Institute. They talked about the history and development of the friendly relationship between China and Japan, and shared their overseas study experience in the other country.
Ms. Yongmei Li gives a welcome speech
Ms. Yongmei Li, assistant dean of COE, expressed her warm welcome to their visit. She introduced that in the past decade, Peking University has been actively pursuing its goal of becoming a world-class university. Building a leading engineering program is a crucial strategy of Peking University in becoming an internationally renowned university. From its inception in 12 years ago, COE has sought to be a top-tier engineering institution. The College has emphasized on engineering science and promoted interdisciplinary research. It currently consists of six departments--Mechanics and Engineering Science, Energy and Resources Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, and Aeronautics and Astronautics. She also mentioned that COE is home to an excellent team of faculty members, most of whom have overseas experiences in the U.S. and in many different countries including Japan.
In the next session, students from both sides exchanged their opinions about “dreams” and “impression”. Through the discussion, they improved their understanding on the culture of the two countries. After the meeting, the delegation visited the Intelligent Control Lab and the wind tunnel lab of COE.
About Peking University and Waseda University
As one of the highest institutions in China, Peking University has long embarked on the road of internationalization, and has witnessed the birth and growth of Confucius Institute at Waseda University. Since the agreement signing on academic exchange in 1982, Peking University and Waseda University have developed a profound friendship. In 2003, the "Waseda University - Peking University Joint Education Research Institute" was established. In 2005, the two sides jointly launched a dual degree education program.
In 2007, the Confucius Institute at Waseda University was jointly established by Waseda University and Peking University. Differing from simply focusing on learning Chinese language and experiencing Chinese culture, it strives to cultivate scholars, carry out joint research, to enable students to have a high level of language skills and professional competence, in order to cultivate a "Sino-Japanese bridge" talent.
