From July 15-19, the 2017 Summer Program for High School Students was successfully held in the College of Engineering (COE). Over 210 selected high school students from nationwide attended the five-day program which was designed to give an excellent opportunity for high school students to know more about COE.
The program, initiated in 2013, aims to attract and select the best prospective students from the nation. This year, over 2000 second-year high school students who have strong interest in engineering studies applied from a large number of schools in China, and about 210 students were successfully enrolled to the program after a strict screening process.
In the five-day camp, they went through a series of activities including attending lectures, hands-on opportunities, touring laboratories, sitting exams, having interviews and participating in art performance, before 40 of them were finally selected to receive qualification for the university-level independent admission examination next year.
The college leaders, faculty members of COE’s six departments, and current students met with the students, giving introductions to majors that COE offer and answered the questions the students had.
In the closing ceremony, many students of the summer program expressed that the program had brought them lots of knowledge, information, scientific interests, and aspiration for growth.
