In order to cultivate innovative spirit and support students’ business startups, Peking University recently commenced trial operation of the Global Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Up to now, the Center has received applications from 39 student startup teams, ten of which will be the first batch to enter the New Youth Maker Space. Two startup teams were led by Ph.D. students of the College of Engineering (COE).
One COE team, called Quality Technology, based on a new generation of Internet of Things technology, is committed to promoting integration of artificial intelligence and home products and urban network. At present, the team is using the machine learning algorithm and particulate matter filtration technology, to develop the first generation of urban small-scale air quality forecasting system and intelligent air purifier. The team is currently composed of 10 students from the College of Engineering, Information Science and Technology, Information Management, Chinese Department and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. It is divided into algorithm team, hardware team, marketing team and integrated affairs management team.
The projects of the other teams involve artificial intelligence, information technology, environmental protection, cultural industries and so forth.
The innovation and entrepreneurship education has become one of the core contents of university education, and a crucial factor for the university to cultivate talents and make contributions to society. PKU Global Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship serves not only as a platform of learning and practicing for college students, a cradle for future entrepreneurs, but also a stimulus to the optimization of college entrepreneurial climate and the cultivation of innovative spirit.
