On July 2nd, College of Engineering (COE) grandly hosted a commencement ceremony for Class of 2016 graduates in Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center at Peking University.
COE leaders, department chairs, teachers, along with parents and families of some graduates attended the event to share with the graduates this joyous moment, and to send their congratulations and best wishes. The event was hosted by Ms. Yongmei Li, assistant dean of COE.

A short video prior to the official start interviewed the graduate students on questions like “what did these years mean to you?” “what was your biggest regret?” “what was the most unforgettable moment?” and “what do you want to say to the College of Engineering?” The video also interviewed some COE teachers, who sent goodbye words to the graduates.
Dean Dongxiao Zhang gives a congratulating speech
At the ceremony, Dean Dongxiao Zhang gave a congratulating speech. He said, “I’m much proud that you have completed your degrees. The future is lying on your hands.” “As we know, innovation is crucial for the advancement of the society and the development of human beings. I hope that in the future, you will become a leader in technology innovation, a rule maker in industry and a pioneer in your field,” Zhang added.
Alumnus Qiu Yuan delivers a speech
Alumnus 99’ Mr. Yuan Qiu, currently vice president of GCL Smart Commute Co., Ltd. (an operator of smart transportation and smart city services under Golden Concord Holdings Limited) delivered a speech on the ceremony. He suggested the graduates on having a continuous learning ability and aspiration for the unknown, while adjusting themselves in mind state when facing frustration.
Teacher Chao Zhou gives a speech
Subsequently, teacher representative Dr. Chao Zhou asked the graduates to be robust and flexible to meet challenges and pressures in the life afterwards. Student representative Tianhao Wu and Ms. Xiujuan Li, mother of graduate Yifeng Wu also shared their feelings.
According to the overall performances during the years at university, several students were elected to be outstanding undergraduates and outstanding graduates. They received the honor from the COE Party Secretary Zhili Sun and Associate Dean Steven Feng Chen on the ceremony.
Each of the graduates received "turning the tassel" from COE leaders on the ceremony, which symbolizes one's transition from candidate to graduate.
