On May 27th, headed by Prof. Tim Cheng, Dean of Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), a delegation from HKUST visited the College of Engineering to have communications. The delegates included Prof. King Lun Yeung, Associate Dean of Engineering for Research & Graduate Studies, Prof. Ting Chuen Pong, Director of Center for Engineering Education Innovation, Ms. Margaret Chau, Head of Research & Graduate Studies Administration, and Miss Kammy Chan, Assistant Manager for MPhil/PhD Programs & Research.
The team received warm reception by Prof. Dongxiao Zhang, Dean of PKU College of Engineering (COE), Prof. Jianxiang Wang, Associate Dean of COE for Undergraduate Education, Prof. Huiling Duan, Chair of Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science, Prof. Anyuan Cao, Chair of Department of Materials Science and other faculty members.
The HKUST delegation gave a brief introduction of HKUST and then talked about the Engineering School’s achievement in faculty development, undergraduate education, graduation education as well as international exchange. Prof. Cheng pointed out that the university puts emphasis on enhancing students’ hands-on experience and creativity, training engineering talents, and wishes to increase communications with inner-land universities in various levels.
Dean Dongxiao Zhang of PKU engineering introduced about COE’s main situations. He said that COE is geared to international standards in terms of faculty profile and student education, and the college shares many perspectives with HKUST. The two parties also discussed detailed exchange projects like the PKU’s Globex educational exchange program, increasing mutual understanding between the two sides and laying a good foundation for future cooperation.
