Ten College of Engineering students received the Sharp scholarship for the academic year 2010-2011, totaling 50,000 RMB. The scholarship was awarded on December 17 by Nobuyuki Sugano, chairman and president of Sharp (China) Investment Co. Ltd.
The Sharp Scholarship was set up in April 2011 by Sharp (China) Investment Co. Ltd. to award selected COE students who require financial support. In May 2011, seven students received the first Sharp Scholarship for the academic year 2009-2010, with the same amount of 50,000 RMB. To respond to the students’ needs, the Scholarship was adjusted to benefit more students for the academic year 2010-2011. Of the 41 applicants, 10 students were chosen based on their overall performances in academics, social work and other merits.
Youbing Li and Nobuyuki Sugano
Third-year master’s candidate Youbing Li is among the recipients. “Compared to most classmates I am older in age, as I started my postgraduate study a little bit late. So the economic pressure is quite high for me. I really appreciate this award,” Li said.
