    2011 Engineering Cultural Festival Opens at Peking University

  • Organized by the College of Engineering and sponsored by Envision Energy Ltd., the 2011 Engineering Culture Festival officially opens at Peking University Library on November 24. Over 300 representatives and students attended the opening ceremony. Professor Wenchang Tan, COE CPC Secretary delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the College of Engineering. Mr. Lei Zhang, the Founder and CEO of Envision Energy Ltd. gave a keynote speech on his entrepreneurship experience. University Administration representatives Xu Cheng from the PKU President Office and Cao Ruan from the PKU League Committee expressed their support to the festival.

    The theme of this year’s festival is “Engineering Innovation”. According to the schedule, four major types of activities will take place from late November 2011 to March next year, which are Engineering Forum, Laboratory Tour, Model Airplane Contest and Enterprise Visit. Details of the activities are as follows:

    • Engineering Forum (November 2011-March 2012): Leaders from the academia and industry will be invited to talk on the frontier knowledge, innovative thinking and future trends in the engineering discipline.
    • Laboratory Tour (Mid December 2011): Lab tours will be organized for undergraduates to have direct interaction with research faculty and facilities.
    • Model Airplane Contest (Early December 2011 in the lawn of Jing Garden): Students will form groups to design and build model airplanes for competition and display.
    • Enterprise Visit (November 2011 to January 2012): Visits of representative industry enterprises will be arranged for the students to probe into the most advanced technologies and their current application.
