Establishment of the “Engineering Division” at Peking University.
5000 students graduate from the Engineering Division. Eleven students and 12 teachers would later become members of the Chinese Academy of Science and/or Chinese Academy of Engineering.
The division splits from Peking University and merges into Tsinghua University and Tianjin University due to government reorganization of higher education.

Peking University establishes its Department of Mechanics.
The Department of Mechanics becomes the Department of Mechanics and Engineering Sciences.
Peking University establishes the State Key Laboratory for Turbulence. It is initiated by Chinese renowned theoretical physicist Peiyuan Zhou.
The State Key Laboratory for Turbulence is renamed the State Key Laboratory for Turbulence and Complex Systems.
Peking University reestablishes the College of Engineering, naming Shiyi Chen as the dean.
Four new departments are founded:
Department of Energy and Resources Engineering, Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Advanced Material and Nanotechnology, and Department of Industrial Engineering and Management.
The Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science merges into the College of Engineering and becomes the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering.
The Industrial Board is founded.
The Academic Steering Committee holds its first meeting.
The College of Engineering forms its Alumni Association.
The College of Engineering establishes its Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Department of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology becomes Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering became Department of Mechanics and Engineering Science.
