Research Areas and Interests

(1) Molecular design and preparation of blue phase liquid crystal display materials and materials for TFT-LCD;

(2) Regulation of molecular structures, microstructures and optical performance of cholesteric liquid crystal materials;

(3) Molecular design and preparation of liquid crystalline laser materials;

(4) Molecular design and preparation of liquid crystalline laser protective films;

(5) Molecular design and preparation of liquid crystalline multistage anti-counterfeiting coating;

(6) Molecular design and preparation of liquid crystalline brightness enhancement films and diffuser sheets;

(7) Modulation of the molecular structures, microstructures and thermal-optical properties of thermally controllable light transmittance adjustable films;

(8) Modulation of the molecular structures, microstructures and electrical-optical properties of electrically controllable light transmittance adjustable films (normal, reverse, and bistable modes);

(9) Pilot-scale preparation techniques of thermally controllable light transmittance adjustable films, thermochromism films, electrically controllable light transmittance adjustable films, laser protective films, anti-counterfeiting coating, brightness enhancement films, and diffuser sheets, etc.


Research Profile

Based on small molecule liquid crystals, polymer liquid crystals, and liquid crystal/polymer composites, around the relationship between the molecular structures, the micro structures and the properties as well as the key technical problems of the materials in large-scale processing, the molecular design, synthesis, and performance modulation of functional liquid crystalline materials are being systematically investigated. More than 70 projects were undertaken, including the National High-Technology Research and Development Program (“863” program) of China, National Key Technology Support Program, Major Project of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Special Project of Flat-Panel Display of Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, Key Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Key (Key grant) Project of Chinese Ministry of Education, Ph. D. Programs Foundation of Ministry of Education of China, Beijing Major Science & Technology Projects as well as College-Enterprise Co-operation Projects, etc. At present, more than 260 papers have been published in international academic journals such as  Adv. Mater., Adv. Funct. Mater., Adv. Energ. Mater., Small,Chem. Commun., and more than 100 patents were applied, 31 of which were authorized.
