Educational Background

B.Sc., Mechanics, Peking University

M.Sc., Mechanics, Peking University

Dr.-Ing., Mechanics, Universität Karlsruhe

Areas of Research

Mechanical Behavior of Biomaterials, Biomechanics of Musculoskeletal Systems, Dental Mechanics, Optimization of Artificial Prosthesis and Surgical Design, Modeling and Simulation of Biomedical Systems

Research Profile
  1. The overall objective of the research in the Rong group is to understand the structure and function of living tissues at different scales. Our research focuses on biomechanical modeling of tissues, organs and systems with application in clinical diagnosis and therapy.
  2. Tissue mechanics research focuses on development of new constitutive models of soft and hard tissues, considering their adaptation ability to mechanical environment. Both experimental and computational methods are used to characterize the mechanical behavior of these biological tissues.
  3. Biomechanics research at organ and system levels focuses on the clinically relevant problems, such as injury, orthopaedics, orthodontics, etc. Numerical technologies are use to develop precise FE models of spine, craniofacial structures, knee joint, respiratory systems, etc. The simulation results will further the understanding of biomedical mechanism and provide a theoretical basis for clinical treatment.
  4. One goal of prosthesis design is to accomplish the physiological function with minimal materials. The biomechanical methods can validate and improve the design of different prostheses, such as artificial joints, trauma fixation devices, dental implants, etc.
