Research Profile

Advances in novel materials has been the driving force for social, scientific and technological progress. Design, manufacturing and application of advanced materials rely on whether we fully understand their mechanical properties and the underlying physics and mechanisms. In our lab, we design experimentations to characterize the mechanical properties of low-dimensional materials, including nanowire (1D), graphene and metallic films (2D) and hierarchical and functional composites (3D). Combining experimental measurements with multi-level modeling techniques, such as Finite Element Simulation, Molecular Dynamics Simulation and First Principle Calculation, we try to understand the nano-mechanics of materials at the atomic level, and guide the design and synthesis of advanced materials in a bottom-up approach.
