The Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics was established in 2010 to offer Peking University students unique educational and career opportunities in aerospace, one of the most interesting and exciting disciplines in engineering and science. The main objective of the department is to prepare students for future success and leadership in aircraft and space vehicle design, implementation and operation. It hopes to achieve this objective through commitment to educational excellence and faculties' achievements of research distinction.
For now the department mainly specializes in:
(1) Aircraft and space vehicle design;
(2) Flight control and information technology;
(3) Aircraft and space vehicle material;
(4) Aircraft engine.
The research groups at Peking University have long-standing interests in aeronautics and astronautics, and they have played a leading role in resolving fundamental and theoretical challenges that the Chinese aerospace industry faces. In addition to maintaining the strengths in Peking University’s core disciplines, the College of Engineering is going to extend research themes and build up new engineering and research capabilities to address fast growing national and global needs. Some areas of study and research include space robotics, environmentally sustainable aerospace design, and space communication. The department’s primary mission is to continue developing innovative engineering methods and integrating new theoretical methods into modern aerospace systems.
